Rennie Antacidum
Rennie Antacidum is a medicinal product for use, among others, in in heartburn, indigestion, belching, i.e. symptoms related to gastric hyperacidity. The drug neutralizes excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
Active substances: Calcium, Magnesii carbonas
Composition
1 tablet contains 680 mg of calcium carbonate and 80 mg of heavy magnesium carbonate.
Excipients: sucrose, gelatinized maize starch, potato starch, magnesium stearate, talc, light liquid paraffin, mint flavor (peppermint oil, maltodextrin, gum arabic, silicon dioxide), lemon flavor (lemon oil, maltodextrin, water).
Dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
- Oral drug.
- The tablets can be chewed or sucked.
- For acidity or heartburn pain, an additional 1-2 tablets may be taken between the usual dosing times.
- The drug should not be used for a long time.
- Do not use the drug for more than 7 days.
Adolescents over 12 years of age and adults: 1-2 tablets, one hour after a meal and at bedtime. Do not use more than 11 tablets a day.
Action
Rennie Antacidum contains active substances (calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate) responsible for neutralizing excess hydrochloric acid in the stomach (which results in increasing the pH). The drug works locally and is not absorbed into the bloodstream.
Symptoms
Symptomatic treatment of symptoms related to acidity in the stomach, such as:
- heartburn,
- indigestion,
- flatulence
- nausea,
- belching,
- a feeling of fullness or heaviness in your upper abdomen.
Contraindications
Do not use Rennie Antacidum:
- if you are allergic to active substances or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
- if you have known high levels of calcium in your blood (hypercalcaemia),
- if you suffer from calcium nephrolithiasis, severe kidney failure,
- if you have low levels of inorganic phosphate in the blood (hypophosphataemia).
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Not known:
- nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
- stomach discomfort
- muscle weakness
- hypersensitivity reactions (rash, urticaria, angioedema).
Warnings and Precautions
- Long-term use may be associated with hypermagnesaemia, hypercalcemia, alkalosis.
- Caution should be exercised when using the drug in patients: with diagnosed renal failure, with excessive excretion of calcium in the urine (hypercalcuria).
- Diabetic patients should take into account the sucrose content – 1 tablet contains 475 mg of sucrose.
- Keep the drug out of the sight and reach of children. Store below 25 ° C.
Interactions with other drugs
Tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you are taking, or have recently taken, and about the doctor you plan to take, including those sold without a prescription.
Rennie Antacidum may interact with:
- tetracyclines and quinolone antibacterial drugs,
- cardiac glycosides (e.g. digoxin),
- phosphates, fluorides, iron preparations,
- thiazide diuretics.
Taking the drug with food and drink
The drug should be taken after a meal.
Do not use Rennie with large amounts of milk or dairy products.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Rennie Antacidum can be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Do not use in people under 12 years of age.
