Ginkofar Forte (60 Tablets)
Ginkofar Forte is a preparation that can be used in the elderly to improve cognitive abilities, as well as improve the quality of life in mild dementia. Ginkofar Forte is a drug containing ginkgo biloba leaf extract, which improves blood flow in the brain, dilates blood vessels and prevents platelet aggregation. The active substances of the extract are flavone glycosides, ginkgolides and bilobalide.
One tablet of Ginkofar Forte contains 80 mg of dry ginkgo leaf extract. Usually one tablet is taken three times a day.
Intended Use of Ginkofar Forte
Ginkofar Forte is used in disorders:
- cerebral circulation with the following symptoms: impaired mental concentration, memory disorders, dizziness and headaches, tinnitus, hearing and vision impairment,
- peripheral circulation, accompanied by disorders in the blood supply to the lower limbs – feeling of cold and pain in the feet.
Active substance: Ginkgo bilobae folium
Composition
One coated tablet of Ginkofar Forte contains 80 mg of dry extract of Ginkgo biloba L. folium (gingko leaf) (35-67:1), including:
native extract: 90-100%, composition:
- 22-27% ginkgoflavonoglycosides,
- 5-7% terpene lactones (including 2.8-3.4% ginkgolides A, B and C and 2.6-3.2% bilobalide),
- not more than 5 ppm ginkgolic acids;
excipient: liquid glucose 0-10%,
extractant: acetone 60% m/m.
Excipient with known effect: lactose monohydrate 60 mg.
Dosage
- The recommended dose for adults is 1 tablet 3 times a day.
- Daily dose: 3 tablets
Treatment should last at least 8 weeks.
If symptoms worsen or there is no improvement after 3 months of using the drug, you should contact your doctor.
After three months, ask your doctor whether treatment with Ginkofar Forte should be continued.
Contraindications
Do not use:
- if you are allergic to ginkgo biloba leaf extract or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- if you are pregnant.

Warnings
This is medicine. For safety, use it according to the leaflet attached to the package. Do not exceed the maximum dose of the drug. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Before starting to use the drug, talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have an increased tendency to bleed (bleeding diathesis).
People taking anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs (so-called blood thinners) should contact their doctor before taking the drug.
Before surgery, inform your doctor or dentist about the use of the drug. It is recommended to stop taking Ginkofar Forte at least 3 – 4 days before a planned surgical or dental procedure, such as tooth extraction.
Caution should be exercised in patients with epilepsy, as the occurrence of further seizures while taking Ginkofar Forte cannot be ruled out.
If your symptoms do not improve or worsen while using the drug, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Ginkofar Forte contains lactose.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
During pregnancy:
The drug is contraindicated for use during pregnancy due to the lack of sufficient data and the risk of increased bleeding tendency.
Breast-feeding:
Due to the lack of sufficient data, the drug is not recommended for use during breastfeeding.
Side effects
Like all medicines, Ginkofar Forte can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The following side effects may occur when using Ginkofar Forte:
Very common (more than 1 in 10 people):
- headache.
Common (affects 1 to 10 people in 100):
- dizziness,
- gastrointestinal complaints (diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting).
Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data):
- bleeding from individual organs (eyes, nose, hemorrhage from the gastrointestinal tract and cerebral vessels).
The risk of bleeding increases with concomitant use of blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet agents, see section 2).
- allergic reactions (allergic shock),
- allergic skin reactions (erythema, swelling, itching and rash).
